Ditch Show #44 Listings: Thursday 1 st August - Wednesday 7th August

Thursday 1st August
The Remix Sessions @ Juno.This is the first of series of events that will happen every Thursday during the whole month and that will mix live painting, drawing and graffiti by emerging but also established local artists. There are several canvas around the venue and the artists will perform in front of the audience on for 25 minutes on each and then move on to the next one so the result will certainly be interesting once they finished the collaborations between them.

Friday, 2nd
Entertaining Mr. Orton @ Arcola Theatre. A new play by Martin Mulgrew that depicts how Joe Orton's life would be if the english author didn't die that early. The play has a dark comedy mood and is set in the style of Mr. Orton's works. Tickets start at £12 and the performance starts at 8 PM.


Saturday, 3rd

Gardening volunteer sessions @ Dalston Eastern Curve Garden. For the green fingers out there the sessions start from 2 PM and you can get involved in looking after their plants, share experiences and improve your skills as you're enjoying nature for free!

Prudential RideLondon freecycle @ various venues in London. This event is still inspired by the last year's games and aims to get people cycling more often! This event is traffic free so can you imagine how amazing would be to be riding your bike across all the touristic places in the city with no cars, buses or people in your way? You can enter anywhere along the route and starts at 9 AM. There will also be some repair stalls, exhibitors and interactive activities.


Sunday, 4th
An art exhibition that mixes digital, oil, acrylic and many other techniques @ London Newcastle gallery. Andy Seize’s exhibition "Off the rails" focuses of the 21st century culture such as neon signs, underground trains, superheroes and brands. It's free, from 12 AM to 4 PM. 


Monday, 5th
Comic Mondays @ Theatre Royal Stratford East. Rich Wilson hosts a free night of comedy that will also feature other artists and that happens from 8 PM.

Thursday, 25th July
Economy of thought @ the Yard Theatre. This is part of the London previews series happening at this venue located in Hackney Wick. The performance is a darkly comic play about moral, money, responsibility and loyalty, starts at 7:30 PM and tickets are £9.

Friday, 26th
Who hasn't wore Adidas at their young years.......or even nowadays? So the famous shoe brand has an exhibition about its history from the fan's point of view. More than 600 pairs of Adidas and personal stories by fans have been gathered in this exhibition that is being held @
Hoxton Gallery At The Arch. Opening times from 12 PM to 7 PM and free entry

Saturday, 27th
Making tracks @ the Richmix. An event that mixes live music with moving image and aims to be an interactive platform for new film talent! This is organized by Whirlygig cinema and
the cabinet of living cinema which is a meeting of artists to create cinema experiences through live performances. Happens  from 7:30 PM and tickets start at £8.

Open East Festival @ Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. During the weekend and from 1:30 PM people will celebrate the 1st anniversary of the London 2012 Games with music, international bands playing in several stages, dj sets, pop up performances, sing-a-longs and loads of food and family friendly activities to keep you busy and entertained! Tickets start at £9.50.

For the adventurous... Canoe rides @ Regent's Canal! Courses for large groups or even two people during the weekend - Friday to Sunday - where you can learn and have fun from £30. The Moo Canoes has bases in Limehouse, Greenwich and Tower Bridge. 


Sunday, 28th
Krosses @ the Hackney Empire. The comedian Keith 'Shebada' Ramsey starts in a "true Jamaican style soap opera". Tickets are £25 and all the fun starts at 8 PM.

The Love Project @ the Richmix. From 7 PM you can watch a verbatim play about stories of a couple who met in the late 50’s and is inspired in a real story developed by Ellie Browning who wrote it from interviews. Tickets start at £15.

Free fishing Taster session @ Victoria park. There are coaching sessions for begginers and enthusiasts throughout the day, just go there and find the community park rangers from 11 AM.

Monday, 29th
Outdoor theatre @ Jubilee park, Canary Wharf. Twelfth Night is a comedy about love and deception performed by the Quantum theatre company. Starts from 6:30 PM.

Freestyle dance and fitness night @ the dalston Victoria. This "ladies' only" event is £4 and promises to make you can dance your booty off to some banging tracks, do some crazy moves and get fit with other people from 7 PM.

Tuesday, 30th
A photography exhibition about stories of hope @ Getty Images Gallery. It showcases the work of Chris Jackson about the Sentenbale charity that helps children in Lesotho (in Africa). The exhibition is open to the general public for free and check the gallery's opening times.

Thursday, 18th July
Cocos Lovers Album Launch @ Wiltons music hall. This is the launch of the third album of the folk band. Supporting acts include Arlet and Bawdy Beth Stratford. Music starts from 7:30 PM and tickets are from £10.


Writing Night! @ Genesis cinema. Three new pieces will be introduced to the audience that will then submit their feedback to the artists work. The iniciative aims to improve the writers' work and develop their skills. From 7 PM the judgement will begin! Free


Cockney Heritage Festival @ Idea Store in Tower Hamlets. This festival is organized by the Cockney Heritage Trust and Tower Hamlets Local History Library & Archives and celebrates and explores Cockney culture, past and present. From the 18th till the 27th of July a fully week of talks, film screenings, exhibitions, workshops are expected to get the community involved. Many of the activities are paid or have to be booked so check the website for all the details.


Friday, 19th
St Katharine Docks Good Food Market @  St Katharine Docks. Sunny days ask for outdoor activities so why not check out the Food Market? You can try great quality food from all over the world (from Turkey to Portugal...) Opening times: from 11 AM to 4 PM and free.


Saturday, 20th
Matsuri in London @ Dalston Roof Park. From 3 PM it's all about Japanese themed cinema, music, performances, drawing classes also Japanese street food, and cocktails. Tickets are gone, you must queue to get in.

Border Film Series @ Museum of London Docklands. Screening of District 9 followed by discussions with a panel of experts. From 2 PM and free.

Monday, 22nd
Motto @ KK Outlet in hoxton square. Display of books that are part of this German bookshop for the whole month of July. Books about design, photography and other artistic areas as well as limited editions, rare finds and limited print runs from several artists Motto has worked with will be displayed at the Oulet. Stranger @ the Flowers Gallery. Exhibition that promotes self-portraits as an important part of artist's creative path. In the gallery there are displayed several styles  but you can also find different approaches in this exhibition that runs till the end of August. Friday, 12th 
Dances performances @ Richmix. "Every way up has It's way Down" and "Let's get angry" are part of this night of spoken word and dances from 7:30 PM. The first one focuses on the adaptation of people from a Jewish background  into an east London lifestyle. The second show depicts the life of a teenager and aims to get the public involved in the sense that they will also remember their teenage years. Tickets are £10.

Freak Flags @ Rough Trade East. Instead of going to the venue to listen to music, why not going to see some creative paitings? The american's CMRTYZ  exhibition depicts ways of freedom through flags and aims to get a positive vibe of the people who visits it. Free exhibition but for opening times check the store's website.

Not For Rental happens @ 71a Gallery. One week charity event that has film screenings, talks, workshops and aims to raise awareness and support for important issues by Macmillan Cancer Support and Art Against Knives. Thursday 4th July 

In America this means Independence Day and in honour of this, a food truck festival called Truck Stop is rolling into Wood Wharf in E14. We’ll be seeing old ambulances, milk floats and trucks with a mobile roadside diner, taco shack and a bbq smoke pit. There will also be live blue grass bands, honky tonk and an exhibition of vintage American cars.
Wood Wharf near Canary Wharf, 4th and 5th July 5-11pm and tickets are £10.


The English Disco Lovers (EDL) are a pro-disco, anti-racism group. They aim to spoof the slogans and emblems of The English Defence League, showing them for what they really are - racist, outdated and not the type you'd invite to your disco! They want to get more Twitter followers, Facebook likes, and when you Google search EDL, the goal is to find this instead of the English Defence League. Friday 5th July 

A play by Annie Baker called Circle Mirror Transformation. It’s a Royal Court production but being put on at the Rose Lipman Building in Haggerston. It’s about five lost people come together at a community centre to try and find some meaning in their lives. It’s a pretty incredible cast including Toby Jones and Imelda Staunton. Saturday 6th

It’s going to be a bit of a scorcher this weekend so if the heat gets to you, there will be a record attempt of the tallest water sprinkler in Victoria Park from noon and it’s also happening same time on Sunday too. Sunday 7th July 
There’s an exhibition called Sounding The Body Electric - Experiments in Art and Music in Eastern Europe 1957–1984. In the aftermath of Stalinism, composers and artists in Eastern Europe were given new opportunities to experiment. New recording studios equipped with magnetic tape recorders and, later, synthesisers were established, first inWarsaw in 1957 and then throughout Eastern Europe. Monday 8th July 
A mobile orchard is coming to The Gherkin. This is where iconic areas around the capital will be transformed with an orchard like installation where you can sit in amongst the tree’s roots and pick some of the hundreds of real apples hanging from it. Running until 13th July at The Gherkin then it moves on. this is all part of the City of London Festival and they have a lot of stuff going on over the summer so check detail. Tuesday 9th July 
Cartoons and Caricatures exhibition. See the Bank of England’s own collection of prints and drawings which includes the work of consummate artists such as James Gillray, John Tenniel and, more recently, Steve Bell. Sustainability conference @  Ecology Pavilion in Mile End. The Tower Hamlets Council wants people to learn more about energy efficiency, sustainable food and green transport in this free event. Several activities will happen from 10 AM and through the day.


Friday, 28th June

Lloyd Cole @ Rough Trade East. The "Standards" album launch happens from 6 PM and to entry is free if you buy the CD.
